I left my country at twenty-two with a hundred dollars and no English. For the first month I ate one cheap hamburger a day, because that was what I could afford. Someone had told me before I left that if I ever got desperate I should find a church — not for a sermon, but because they help people.

That is the first thing I know about God, and I did not learn it in a classroom. His provision did not arrive as money. It arrived as people.
